LEARN HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ELECTRONIC FRAUDS

Fraudulent emails or “phishing” is a high technology form of fraud that utilizes spam or non-solicited mail to fool the user into divulging personal information such as, credit card number, bank account number, social security and other confidential information.  This information is later used to generate frauds.  

Some phishing emails insist on the urgency of an answer like a way to intimidate the users.  The message can solicit to updates, validate or to confirm information on account, referring to a page the same to exactly the same to the legitimate site of the institution (website spoofing), but it is not it.  It’s a false site with the intention to cause you to disclose personal information and this way the operators can break into information and accumulate accounts or commit frauds in the client’s name.

RECOMMENDATIONS OH HOW PROTECT YOU FROM E-MAIL PHISHING  

Use anti-virus or firewall, and keep updated.  Some Phishing mails contain the software that can damage your computer or enables harmful pop-ups. Make sure the computer has the latest version of the anti-virus software

·         Avoid entering confidential information, and completing online transactions in public computers.

·         Do not access the site of Popularenlinea.com through connections located in pages of doubtful origin or connections that receive in electronic mails.  If you wish to access Popularenlinea, make to type the address in your navigator.

·         Do not send personal or financial information by electronic mail to relative friends.  Electronic mails are not a safe method to transmit personal information.

·         Before entering any confidential information, always look out for the padlock symbol, which appears in the inferior bar of the navigator, to confirm that the site is secure. The user can also double click the padlock symbol to confirm the validity.

·         Check your account statements and credit cards once you have received them to check to check for unauthorized charges
