Loyal to this noble tradition, Banco Popular donated two million pesos to Plan Sierra last year, the third toward a donation program of over 20 million pesos for a time period of 10 years, with the goal of supporting the works of rational exploitation and conservation of the country’s natural resources.
With this third donation, Banco Popular has pledged six million pesos, which have been invested in the purchase of land, equipment and machinery, for the reforestation of hundreds of acres of land and in the education of technical personnel.
A portion of the land acquired has been named Bosque Banco Popular, where hundreds of the bank’s employees go every year to perform reforestation work.
With these donations and manpower commitment, the bank collaborates, specifically, in the reforestation of the Yaque del Norte river basin, which provides a large amount of water for human consumption and agricultural use in Santiago, the Central part of the Cibao region and the Cibao Valley.
