THE RESOUNDING SUCCESS OF PLÁCIDO DOMINGO IN THE NATIONAL THEATER
Some of the headlines that followed the presentation of the most famous Spanish lyrical artist of all time, reveal the dimension of the enormous success of this concert in the National Theater on April 16th: Plácido Domingo’s performance, a masterful concert; Plácido Domingo, a universal artist; Plácido Domingo, unrivalled; Plácido Domingo, charismatic and unrivalled; Plácido Domingo exceeds fan’s expectations; Placido’s magic; Plácido Domingo and Ana María Martínez fill the National Theater with quality; Plácido, the king forever… and with words like these streamed rivers of ink and hundreds of rolls of paper and film to emphasize the most transcendant musical spectacle presented in the country in recent years, with exclusive sponsorship from Banco Popular Dominicano.
The charismatic Spanish lyrical singer and actor began his presentation performing Un Furtiva Lagrima, by Gaetano Donizetti and continued with Elucevan le Stelle, by Giacomo Puccini, Lamento di Federico, by Francisco Ciela, and later, Gia Nella Notte Densa, by Guiseppe Verdi, a duet with the equally memorable soprano Ana María Martínez from Puerto Rico, who was an impressive new sensation for the Dominican audience.
The tenor crowned the unrivalled evening performing famous boleros by Dominican authors, like “Y”, “Ayúdame, Dios mío”, by Mario de Jesús, and “Por amor”, a Dominican classic, which led to a resounding and extended ovation by an audience filled with emotion, featuring the presence of renown author, el maestro (the master) Rafael Solano.
With the purpose of delivering Plácido Domingo’s artistry throughout the entire Dominican nation, Banco Popular was able to convince the artist, in a great show of generosity, to allow the concert to be broadcasted through a network of television channels lead by CDN Cadena de Noticias as the main broadcaster, and incorporated by Radio Televisión Dominicana, Televida and Antena Latina.
