Santo Domingo, D.R. – For the third consecutive year, Banco Popular Dominicano received the “Dominican Bank of the Year” award 2005 by The Banker magazine.
This publication is part of the prestigious publishing group Financial Times of London. The prize recognizes Banco Popular Dominicano as "the best bank to make businesses in Dominican Republic for year 2005".
The criteria for assessment of these awards are based on a rigorous and objective analysis of more than 130 countries, rating performance and achievements of the main financial institutions in the world and are considered as an indicator that represents the institutional and economical strengths of the global banking industry.
According to Tanny Ribeiro, representative of The Banker for Latin America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula, Banco Popular Dominicano has been prized for three consecutive years, "after a rigorous revision of the Dominican banking financial system", which acknowledges the institution as "the best bank to make businesses in this country".
Likewise, Euromoney magazine has recognized once more Banco Popular Dominicano, as the "The Best Bank of the Dominican Republic in 2005". When referring to this recognition, the executives of the aforementioned publication expressed that the award was highly esteemed and reflects the banks achievements during the last twelve months.
Previously, in 2004, Popular received awards by other publications from the same group of Euromoney, known as Emerging Markets recognizing the institution as the “Best Investment Bank” and the “Best Bank for Project Finance” for Central America and the Caribbean.
Manuel A. Grullón, president of the bank, expressed his satisfaction towards the recognition received by the prestigious European publication, and emphasized the importance that this distinction represents for the institution. This prize reflects within the globalize commercial framework, the quality of the services provided by the bank, the endorsement and confidence of its clients and the general public, as well as the international image of efficiency, the constant exercise of complying with the best financial practices world-wide and the financial solvency and the strength of the institution.
Mr. Grullón also highlighted the institution’s commitment with the use of innovative technology to promote its products and services, as well as the corporate governance philosophy, oriented both towards the internal regulations and working as a team, to benefit the customer and the country’s social and economic development.
