Support of activities in matters of health and social wellbeing

Our programmes of social commitment and community support provide resources and endorse initiatives for human development and quality of life improvement, carried out by entities that in different orders work in favor of the disadvantaged.

In this line, special attention is given to assistance centers specialized in health and care for orphans and elders, as also to institutions that provide the necessary tools to face chronic situations. For over five years, Banco Popular has contributed undyingly with Asociación contra Adicciones (ASCAYD) as well as the Dominican Association for Rehabilitation since its foundation. Also this year, special donations were made to entities such as Banco de la Esperanza, the Corneas Bank of the Dominican Republic and the Institute of instruction for the integration of blind citizens to social development (INCIDES).

Donation of incubators to the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Hospital’s maternity ward

The decrease in the infant death rate is one of the United Nations’ goals for the millennium. Banco Popular, committed to this initiative donated 10 incubator machines to the Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia’s maternity ward of this our capital, giving continuity to its beneficent labor in favor of healthcare institutions. With this donation, our institution ensures the optimization of its labors in favor of infants that are received daily at their attending wards, contributing to the decrease of the infant premature death rate which has decreased to 13.6 for every one thousand infants born (a little bit over 0.1 %). Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia performs 95 daily births and receives over 700 women for consultation purposes on a daily basis, under the assistance of 160 physicians, residents and nurses.

Donation of tomography wing for Robert Reid Cabral Hospital

Within its community commitment actions and with the interest providing the proper attention in matters of health to the Dominican population, Banco Popular donated resources to Robert Reid Cabral Hospital, specialized in childcare, for the construction of a modern wing in which the health entity installed a tomography scanner. The bank’s contribution which summed to donations from other banking entities facilitated the construction of a 125 square meter structure that features among its facilities with a room to store the scanner, an area for the controlling equipment , dresser and waiting hall, consultation office, a supply area and restroom. In like manner, with the aforementioned resources a railing of blocks was built to delimit the place’s area.

Equipments for dialysis treatment for the Dominican Renal Foundation

For over thirty years, the Dominican Renal Foundation, Inc. has worked for the purpose of giving hope to people suffering from renal diseases, especially to those who cannot turn to private medical assistance due to the elevated costs for treatment. In 2003, due to the relocation of its operation centres, Banco Popular became aware of this foundation and carried out the donation of six machineries specialized in dialysis treatment for this sector of the population
